Biography

Amalia Miller is an economist at the RAND Corporation. Her research areas include health and labor economics, public finance, and industrial organization. In health, she has studied the determinants of healthcare information technology diffusion and its impacts on health outcomes and spending. She has also estimated the effects of state laws promoting midwifery on medical interventions and health outcomes. In labor, she has explored the effects of fertility delay and contraceptive access on women's career and family outcomes, as well as the role of social and economic factors in fertility decisions. She has studied the influence of policy on individual and market outcomes across various contexts, including intergenerational effects of welfare reform on academic outcomes, affirmative action rules in policing and corporate leadership, and antitrust enforcement in the airline industry. Miller received her B.S. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University.
