Biography

Janice Pedersen is a research assistant with RAND Europe. She has carried out anthropological field research in rural Eastern Uganda, with a focus on changes in elderly people's support networks, including the impact on these of HIV/AIDS. Her research interests lie particularly in gerontology, intergenerational and kin-based relationships, public and sexual health, issues surrounding gender, and international development. She is also interested in exploring and developing applied ethnographic methods. Prior to joining RAND Europe, Pedersen was a researcher for a Danish consultancy which specialises in applying anthropological methods and theory to user-driven innovation projects for public and private sector clients. In particular, she worked on a major project investigating the basis for disseminating electric cars in Denmark and another, for a major hearing aid manufacturer, with intensive field research involving hearing aid users in Denmark and the United States. Pedersen is a Danish national and is fluent in Danish. She has lived in Botswana, Tanzania and Denmark.
