Overview

Biography

Dimitris Potoglou is an analyst on RAND Europe's Choice Modelling and Valuation team. Potoglou joined RAND Europe in February 2008, having previously held a position as a postdoctoral researcher at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He has expertise in internet surveys, discrete choice modelling, stated preference techniques, geographic information systems, and spatial data analysis. At RAND Europe, he has worked on projects focusing on the use of stated preference data to model the willingness to pay for improvements in water services, to value the outcomes of social care, and to estimate the demand for postal services under changed service offerings. Potoglou's latest research focuses on the application of stated preference methods on individuals' trade-offs across privacy, liberty, and security under different real-life contexts including the passport application, travelling on the UK national rail network, and when individuals are about to attend large-scale public events. Potoglou is a core member of the Stated Response Surveys Subcommittee of the Transportation Research Board's Travel Surveys Committee and the editorial board of The Open Transportation Journal. Potoglou received his Ph.D. in urban transportation geography from McMaster University, Canada.

Recent Projects

  • Design and analysis of discrete choice experiments in the transport, social care, and postal sectors
  • Quantifying individuals' trade-offs among privacy, liberty, and security
