Biography
Karen Treverton is currently adjunct staff. She joined RAND as a consultant in 1978 and served as special assistant in the President's Office from 1993 until her retirement in May 2012. Prior to joining the President's Office, Karen was a member of the International Policy Department, where her research interests centered on terrorism and low-intensity conflict. She served as project leader for the extensive databases that RAND maintains in these areas and was a coauthor of the RAND Chronology of International Terrorism, an annual publication that describes, catalogs, and analyzes terrorist activity around the world. In 1991, she took on the additional role of administrator for RAND Europe and was involved in all aspects of the planning process by which the center was created. Before joining RAND, Karen was on the faculty of the Costa Rican Academy in San Jose, Costa Rica. She has a B.A. in Latin American studies from the University of California, Los Angeles.
