Biography
Frederic Wehrey is a senior policy analyst with RAND. His research at RAND has focused on Saudi-Iranian relations, the domestic influence of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), the impact of the Iraq war on the strategic landscape of the Middle East, and the effects of reform on political violence in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. He has conducted fieldwork in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the U.A.E., Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt. In the summer of 2008, he served as a strategic advisor to MNF-I in Baghdad focusing on post-surge challenges. He has also served as an active-duty and reserve U.S. Air Force officer, with assignments in Turkey, Iraq, Libya, and elsewhere in the Middle East. Since the fall of 2009, he has been an adjunct professor of security studies at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. He holds a B.A. in history from Occidental College and an M.A. in Near Eastern studies from Princeton University. In the fall of 2008 he began full-time study for a doctorate in International Relations at St. Antony's College, University of Oxford. He speaks and reads Arabic.
