Ohid Yaqub
Overview
Biography
Ohid Yaqub is an analyst on RAND Europe's Innovation and Technology Policy team. He has a strong technical understanding of the life sciences, which comes from his undergraduate studies in biochemistry, his doctoral studies in vaccine development, and his master's studies in pharmaceutical patents. His prize-winning research attracted the attention of leading scholars and he acquired four years of experience teaching various aspects of management to under- and postgraduates.
Yaqub has coauthored numerous RAND reports; topics include assessing the impact of intellectual property policies on developing countries for the UK Intellectual Property Office, assessing the organisation of research and development in medical devices for the UK Department of Health, and assessing knowledge exchange in the agricultural supply chain for the UK BBSRC. In evaluation, he has helped develop a framework for the World Bank to assess its ICT-related programmes, is currently engaged in evaluating the Wellcome Trust's initiative to build research capacity in African institutions, and is evaluating knowledge translation efforts in the Department of Health's CLAHRCs. He is also currently exploring the possibility of using antiretroviral drugs for HIV as a preventive strategy with a number of AIDS organisations.
Yaqub received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. with distinction in science and technology policy from SPRU–Science and Technology Policy Research, University of Sussex. He was a postdoctoral research fellow analysing issues in vaccine development at the University of Sussex's Institute of Development Studies.
