National Health Security Strategy Community Engagement Meetings

2009 Bi-Regional Meetings

NHSS Conference 2009

Thursday, March 26, 2009
9:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT

George Washington University Marvin Conference Center
Washington D.C.

Program

We would like to invite you to discuss the development of the National Health Security Strategy (NHSS). The Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for developing the NHSS and has contracted with RAND, a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization, to support this effort. On Thursday, March 26, 2009, stakeholders from DE, DC, MD, PA, VA, WV, AL, FL, GA, KY, MS, NC, SC, and TN will meet in Washington D.C. at the George Washington University Marvin Conference Center to discuss the goals and objectives of the NHSS and to comment on the various opportunities for ongoing community engagement that should be a part of the final strategy.

The Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act of 2006 (PAHPA) mandated the development of the NHSS in order to integrate public and private health and medical capabilities with other first responder systems and volunteers in a way that maximizes interoperability of systems; coordination between federal, state, local, and tribal planning, preparedness and response activities; and takes into account the public health and medical needs of special needs populations.

RAND is convening a meeting of representatives from public health, the medical community, government, emergency management, business, community organizations, and other key stakeholder groups. These unique viewpoints are valuable to ensuring that the NHSS considers issues of implementation and feasibility, and that it broadly addresses the needs of diverse organizations and individuals.

Participants will have the option of joining the meeting 'virtually' through audio and Web conferencing, or by attending an in-person meeting in Washington D.C. However, space at both the in-person location and online is limited, so please RSVP to let us know you are coming. To RSVP to the meeting, please send the following information to nhss_rand@rand.org and enter "RSVP for DC" in the subject line by Wednesday, March 25, 2009:
