Public Health Systems and Preparedness Events: 2009

National Health Security Strategy Community Engagement Meetings — March - May, 2009

Emergency workers planning for an emergency contingency

The Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act of 2006 (PAHPA) called upon the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to formulate a National Health Security Strategy (NHSS). RAND is supporting HHS in this endeavor. The goals of this strategy are to integrate public and private health and medical capabilities with other first responder systems and volunteers in a way that maximizes interoperability of systems; coordination between federal, state, local, and tribal planning, preparedness and response activities; and takes into account the public health and medical needs of special needs populations. During the early part of 2009, RAND will hold a hold a series of meetings to solicit public input on the strategy.
