National University of Singapore Centre for Health Services Research

This collaboration between RAND Health and the National University of Singapore is accelerating the development and implementation of a Centre for Health Services Research within the university’s Faculty of Medicine to address national needs for health outcomes research to inform public health care policy.

Phase II of RAND's work with the National University of Singapore involves three joint projects aimed at developing the country's health policy research capacity and better informing policy makers.

National Health Scorecard

In support of Singapore's efforts to improve quality of health and healthcare, RAND Health is collaborating with the Ministry of Health to develop a National Health Scorecard to measure and monitor the status of health at the national level as well as the quality of healthcare delivered in the healthcare system across multiple clinical domains.

Construct a Model to Forecast Healthcare Workforce Needs

To better inform the use of healthcare resources in the future, RAND is working with Singapore's Ministry of Health to develop forecast models to project future disease burdens and health utilization. The models will form the foundation for healthcare workforce and infrastructure planning at the MOH.

Conduct a National Mental Health Study

The burden of mental health illness is increasingly recognized as a major concern for many societies. The need to better quantify the magnitude of this burden and the associated impact on the healthcare system and society more generally has resulted in a project between the Institute of Mental Health of Singapore, RAND and multiple partners in Singapore to conduct a comprehensive national mental health study.

Highlights of Recent and Current Work

Strengthening Sub-Regional Infectious Disease Surveillance in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and South Asia

This project is supporting the Global Health and Security Initiative, of the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), in the strategic development and implementation of activities involving three sub-regional partnerships (in the Mekong Basin of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and South Asia), all oriented around cooperation in infectious disease surveillance and control. As part of this project, RAND helped the NTI, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Rockefeller Foundation, and Ministries of Health in the Mekong Basin region (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and China-Yunnan Province) to strengthen national and sub-regional pandemic influenza preparedness by developing and conducting exercises to improve planning for a pandemic influenza emergency.
