The Decision Helper has provided you with some important information on health plan quality, but you'll need more information to make a good decision. You should also consider the services covered, cost, and the doctors and facilities under each plan.

How do you get this information?

  • Go to your employer's benefits office. You can pick up a summary chart of the benefits and coverage offered by each plan, some basic cost information, and a list of the facilities affiliated with each plan.

  • Call the plans. Nearly all plans have brochures and other marketing materials that will explain how they work and their facilities. If you can, look at their Web site.

  • Ask your doctor. If you and your family have personal doctors whom you want to keep, then ask which plans they accept.

  • Visit the plan's facilities. You can't tell everything about a plan from a visit, but you can learn about the setting in which your care will be delivered.
