Center for State and Local Health Policy

The Center for State and Local Health Policy represents RAND's efforts to support the work of state and local health policymakers in improving the health care and public health systems in their jurisdictions. With the ultimate intention of improving health outcomes in communities across the U.S., this work helps to inform policy decisions by providing needs assessments, technical assistance, program evaluation, modeling of policy options, and recommendations for setting health-related priorities. RAND Health has a unique set of researchers with a multidisciplinary skill set to address the particular health and health care challenges faced at the state and local levels.

This work spans a wide range of topics, including evaluating the impact of major public policy changes related to health insurance in Massachusetts, assessing needs for improving children's health in Washington DC, helping multiple states and localities prepare for public health emergencies, and assessing the impact of a parks renovation initiative in Los Angeles on physical activity and other health outcomes.

RAND Health staff can support the efforts of state and local policymakers as they address the complexities of improving their residents' health.
