Mapping Tutorial: Customizing the Map
Customizing the Map
Tools for customizing the map are in the first section, on the right-hand side of the toolbar.
County or City: displays county or city names. For the county view, the layer appears when the zoom rate reaches a level of 2000%. For the State view, the layer displays the names of major cities.
Roads: displays the road network on the main map.
Rivers: displays the rivers on the main map.
Overlay: displays the overlay in a transparent layer in the map foreground. Overlay areas include state in the county view, and county in the Census tract view.
When the overlay is displayed, a click on one of the zones automatically selects all the counties contained in a State or all the census tracks contained in a county and that are visible in the viewing frame. In this case, overlay can be used as a selection tool for the geographic units contained in the zone.
This button erases the overlay.
