Tort Liability and Small Business

Project Leader: Donna Fossum

A recent survey found that the cost and availability of liability insurance is a leading concern of small business owners. This project explores the effects of state tort liability laws on different kinds of small businesses. In particular, we seek to infer the effect of policies such as caps on non-economic damages on the profitability of small businesses by investigating the number of such businesses in markets with varying legal regimes.
