Biography Summary
James Anderson is a researcher at RAND's Institute for Civil Justice. His current research focuses on the policy implications of changes in legal doctrine. He is interested in the effect of no-fault insurance, incentives for transparency in the settlement of mass torts, and the effect of third-party liability for criminal acts (including terrorism). He has published on the indeterminacy of the economic analysis of tort law and on the effect of the federal sentencing guidelines on inter-judge sentencing disparity. Before joining RAND, he was a public defender for ten years.
