Ratan Tata Visits RAND and Joins CAPP Advisory Board
Ratan Tata, Chairman of TATA Industries Limited, Mumbai, India, visited RAND on August 8, 2002 as a follow-up to a meeting Tata held with several RAND analysts during their trip to India last year. TATA Industries is one of the most extensive family businesses in India. The Tata family created India Air and is involved in numerous other enterprises.
During his visit, Tata was presented with a series of familiarity briefings. RAND Vice President Michael Rich gave an overview of RAND; Jerrold Green, Director of International Programs, briefed Tata on RAND's international programs; Jack Riley, Director of RAND Public Safety and Justice, provided an overview of human capital policy analysis; Project AIR FORCE Director Natalie Crawford discussed RAND's national security work; Richard Neu, Assistant to the President for Research on Counterterrorism, briefed on international economic issues; and James Dobbins, Director of NSRD's International Security and Defense Policy Center, discussed his center's work.
RAND Vice President Michael Rich extended an invitation to Tata on behalf of RAND President and CEO Jim Thomson to join the CAPP Advisory Board, and Tata accepted. Tata's presence on the Board signifies RAND's commitment to conducting policy work in and about India.
