RAND Analyst Chosen as Senior Advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to India

Senior Policy Analyst Ashley J. Tellis left RAND at the end of 2001 for New Delhi to serve as Senior Advisor to Robert D. Blackwill, the Ambassador to India. Tellis earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago. He also holds an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Chicago and B.A. and M.A. degrees in Economics from the University of Bombay.

While at RAND, Tellis' research interests included the impact of a rising China on Asia nuclear stability in South Asia. His academic publications have appeared in several journals including the Journal of Strategic Studies, Comparative Strategy, Naval War College Review, and Security Studies. His RAND publications include Interpreting China's Grand Strategy, Measuring National Power in the Postindustrial Age, Stability in South Asia, and Strategic Exposure: Proliferation Around the Mediterranean. His most recent book, India's Emerging Nuclear Posture, was published in August 2001.
