Engaging Korea
On Dec 10, 2003, CAPP co-hosted a conference on "Engaging Korea: The Emergence of Nuclear North Korea" with the Asia Society.
The half day session focused on how to address the challenge posed by North Korea's nuclear program and the prospects for further six-party talks.
Ambassador Charles Kartman, who has served as the executive director of KEDO, the organization charged with implementing portions of the 1994 Agreed Framework, since 2001 gave the opening keynote detailing the current history of negotiations.
Two subsequent panels explored internal changes in North Korea, how regional actors have responded to the threat, and the evolution of US policy. Participants included Ambassador Chung Chong-wook; Professor Chang Sal-Joong, Seoul National University; Bruce Cumings, University of Chicago, and Nina Hachigian, director of CAPP.
