Advisory Board Welcomes New Members

The CAPP Advisory Board welcomed two new members in February, 2003 -- Chairman Woong-Yeul Lee and Michael Kim. Board member Daniel Yun introduced them to RAND and arranged a visit to RAND's Santa Monica office last year.

Chairman Woong-Yeul Lee is head of a conglomerate based near Seoul. With investments in information technology, textiles, chemicals and other areas, the Kolon Group is a major player in many sectors of the Korean economy. Chairman Lee is a member of several international business organizations and has been recognized as a leading next-generation CEO.

Michael Kim is President of Carlyle Asia, where he focuses on buyout investments, acquiring large stakes in a diverse group of businesses. Before joining Carlyle in 1999, Mr. Kim was managing director at Salomon Smith Barney, based in Hong Kong and Seoul. Earlier he was an executive director at Goldman Sachs and received his MBA from Harvard University.

Jerrold Green, RAND's [former] Director of International Programs and Director of the Center for Middle East Public Policy, traveled to Seoul in early February and invited Kim and Lee to join the CAPP Board on behalf of Jim Thomson, RAND's President and CEO. They accepted and will attend the next CAPP Advisory Board meeting on May 8.

Nina Hachigian stated about the new members, "We are so pleased to welcome such distinguished representatives of Korea to our Board."
