Indo-US Strategic Dialogue Conference
On December 10 and 11, RAND and the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) hosted a Strategic Dialogue in New Delhi. ORF is a non-profit, public policy think tank based in New Delhi that brings together experts from various disciplines to analyze national problems.
RAND analysts Dr. Jerrold Green, Ambassador James Dobbins, Mr. Steven Simon, and Dr. Rollie Lal attended the conference as part of a collaborative effort with the Indian institution. Issues discussed were US-India relations, the campaign against terrorism, security in Pakistan, the situation in Afghanistan, and trends in the Gulf.
The Indian delegation included former Ambassador the U.S. Naresh Chandra, former Member of Parliament R.K. Mishra, former Chief of Army Staff Gen. V.P. Malik, and former Foreign Secretaries M. Rasgotra and J.N. Dixit. Mr. Robert Blake, Deputy Chief of Mission and Acting Ambassador for the U.S. also attended the conference and provided insights on the evolving India-U.S. relationship.
ORF hosted a dinner for RAND, and Former Prime Minister I.K. Gujral delivered the keynote speech for the event. Several senior officials and scholars from India attended the dinner, including former Foreign Secretaries Kanwal Sibal and S.K. Singh, as well as former chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) Vikram Sood.
