Head of New Pakistani Think Tank Visits RAND

On October 26, the RAND Center for Asia Pacific Policy (CAPP) held a roundtable discussion with Mr. Javed Jabbar, the head of the new Pakistani think tank International Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution. Ted Karasik chaired the discussion which Wally Baer, Steve Brock, Susan Everningham, Nina Hachigian, Jamie Medby, and Jed Peters also attended.

Mr. Jabbar discussed conflict resolution in South Asia and the "asymmetries of size" regarding the relationship with India as well as Pakistan's internal concerns with water and taxation policies. According to Mr. Jabbar, the four largest challenges that Pakistan faces today are the relationship between religions, state and society; the civil-military relationship; internal governance; and the need to redefine the relationship with India. Accompanying Mr. Jabbar was the Counsul General of Pakistan in Los Angeles, Mr. Noor Muhammad Jadmani.
