David Aaron Appointed Director of Center for Middle East Public Policy (CMEPP)

David Aaron, a senior RAND Corporation fellow and veteran American diplomat who helped set up the negotiations for the Camp David peace agreement between Israel and Egypt in 1978, has been appointed director of the RAND Center for Middle East Public Policy (CMEPP).

Egyptian Intellectual Visits RAND's Washington Office

Dr. Tarek Heggy, a prominent Egyptian liberal intellectual, presented a seminar on “The Future of the Muslim Mind” at RAND’s Washington office on June 24, 2004.  The RAND Center for Middle East Public Policy (CMEPP) sponsored Dr. Heggy’s talk.

RAND Hosts Conference on NATO's Transformation and Gulf Security

A keynote speech by the His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Deputy Emir of Qatar, opened a conference in Doha on April 19-20 that brought together over 60 leading policymakers and security experts from the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and the Gulf to examine new international and regional security challenges and explore the role that NATO could play in enhancing security in the Gulf and the Greater Middle East.

RAND CMEPP Director Jerry Green presented a seminar at the RAND Corporation’s Santa Monica office on March 3, 2004 to discuss his recent trip to Tehran, where he attended a conference and met with senior officials.

Members of U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom Visit RAND

Hosted by Jerry Green, director of RAND International Programs and Development and Director of CMEPP, five committee and two staff members were briefed on current research on Islam by analysts Heather Gregg and Angel Rabasa. The discussion extended into other religions as well.
