Center on Quality Policing Research Areas

Research at the Center on Quality Policing focuses on four interrelated areas:

Best Practices. Studies examine the effectiveness of police policies and practices in relation to costs. The results guide decisions on how to best allocate scarce police resources.

Performance Measurement. The Center is elevating the discussion of what it means for police agencies to be “effective” and identifying performance metrics to gauge effectiveness.

Use of Technology. Research evaluates the effectiveness of promising technologies for improving police performance and examines the issues involved in procurement and implementation.

Force Planning. Studies help police administrators strategically plan their future personnel needs in light of changes in the pool of qualified applicants.
