Obtaining FLS Data

From ICPSR:

The First and Second Malaysian Family Life Surveys and the 1993 IFLS survey are available from the data archive maintained by the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) at the University of Michigan. Individuals at institutions that are ICPSR members may order the data through ICPSR. ICPSR members pay only the cost of the transport media. Individuals without access to ICPSR may order the data either through ICPSR or from RAND at a charge for processing and handling costs at each institution.

The MFLS and IFLS survey data are available electronically as well as by transport media (magnetic tape for MFLS-1 and MFLS-2; CD-ROM for IFLS-1).

Electronic Distribution of FLS Data Files and Documentation by RAND

Electronic transfer of the MFLS-1, MFLS-2, and IFLS-1 data files is now possible via the FLS home page on the World Wide Web and via anonymous ftp at RAND. We are in the process of making MFLS-2 and IFLS-1 documentation available on-line in PDF format. You will need an Adobe Acrobat reader to access them.

MFLS-1 documentation is available only in hard copy and must be ordered from RAND Distribution Services. Hard copies of the MFLS-1, MFLS-2, and IFLS-1 documentation may also be ordered from Distribution Services.

To access the FLS data and documentation through regular anonymous ftp, ftp to info.rand.org, use "anonymous" as your login name, and then do "cd software_and_data/FLS". See the README files in the mfls1, mfls2, and ifls1 subdirec-tories for instructions on copying files.

Documentation and Data on Transport Media

MFLS and IFLS documentation and the IFLS CD-ROM may be ordered via the FLS home page. The IFLS CD-ROM was created before PDF format versions of the IFLS documentation were available and thus includes only the data files.
