About the FLS Newsletter
The FLS Newsletter is a free, occasional publication of the Family in Economic Development Center and Population Research Center at RAND. The Newsletter is a mechanism for disseminating information about surveys fielded by RAND in developing countries and is meant to serve all FLS data users and interested parties. This fourth issue focuses on two additions to the FLS public-release data, the Guatemalan Survey of Family Health (EGSF) and the Matlab Health and Socioeconomic Survey (MHSS). It also provides an update on the status of the second Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS-2) and a follow-on to trace the effects of the collapse of the rupiah (IFLS-2+). As well, it includes the continuing sections of the Newsletter: data updates and clarifications, and a bibliography of research based on the FLS data.
Earlier issues of the Newsletter have reviewed other parts of the FLS effort. The first issue of the FLS Newsletter (February 1994) focused on the Malaysian Family Life Surveys (both the 1976-1977 and 1988-1989 surveys), and the second issue (November 1995) focused on the 1993 Indonesian Family Life Survey. The third issue (December 1996) discussed plans for the Second Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS-2) and provided progress reports on the EGSF and the MHSS.
