L.A.FANS Funding
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, provides financial support for L.A.FANS. NIH funds research projects that make important contributions to scientific knowledge and that contribute to improving the health of the American population. NIH also requires researchers to comply with strict rules about protecting the privacy and rights of participants in research. L.A.FANS has strict measures to protect the rights and privacy of people participating in L.A.FANS, including obtaining a Certificate of Confidentiality from NIH. L.A.FANS is funded by four institutes and offices at NIH: the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), the National Institute on Aging (NIA), the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), and the Office of Behavioral and Social Science Research (OBSSR). Although the study is funded by the federal government, the identities of L.A.FANS participants will not be released to government agencies or anyone else.
