Find out about YOUR neighborhood
The U.S. Census Bureau website is “Information Central” for data on your local community (and not just from the census). Here is where to find information:
- For information about your city, go to: http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/06000.html and select your city from the menu at the top labeled “ California cities.”
- For information about your neighborhood, go to: http://factfinder.census.gov/. Here you can look up information for your zip code area, your city, using the feature at the top center of the page entitled “Get a Fact Sheet for your community...”
- On http://factfinder.census.gov/ you can also look up information for your census tract. Census tracts are places with about 5000 to 8000 people in them. Census tracts are much smaller than zip codes or cities. To look up information on your census tract, click on the link that says “street address” in the section titled “Address Search” on the left side of the page.
Do you want information about local schools or the kids that attend them?
- Go to http://www.lacoe.edu/ and click on the “ School Districts ” link at the top. Then click on “School District Links” on the next page. This will get you to a page with links to every school district in the country. Click on your school district and get information on your local schools and the student population.
