Administrative Core

The PRC provides a stimulating environment through a variety of activities supported by the Administrative Core, which is directed by Michael Rendall.

The fundamental purpose of the Administration Core is to provide Center projects with an intellectually stimulating and productive environment for conducting scientific research. The Administrative Core has four main objectives:

  1. Provide central administrative support to projects in the Center
  2. Facilitate formal and informal communication among researchers and projects and help in disseminating research results and data
  3. Enrich the environment for Center researchers through a visiting-scholars program, through workshops and conferences, and through seminars
  4. Mentor junior staff as they develop their research agenda and become independent researchers

These objectives are achieved through a mix of services and other activities that are responsive to the needs of the PRC research staff and the current and emerging research directions of the Center. This flexibility is ensured by an organizational structure that is representative of the PRC staff and by a set of activities—seminar series, visiting scholars, workshops and conferences—that can be optimally selected to shape the future direction of the Center in ways that exploit the disciplinary mix and substantive expertise of the PRC researchers.

Visiting Scholars

The Center sponsors both short-term and longer-term visitors who come to RAND to Population Research Center projects. Researchers interested in visiting the Population Research Center are invited to contact Michael Rendall.

Seminar Series

Jointly with the Center for the Study of Aging the PRC sponsors the Labor and Population Seminar Series, which brings outside speakers to RAND and provides a forum for Center researchers to present their own work. In addition weekly brown bag seminars provide researchers to present early results of ongoing work. Together with RAND Health the PRC supports a Sociology and Demography seminar series.
