Aging and Retirement
Population aging creates social, economic, and political issues that make systematic, informed planning of policies concerning the elderly a national imperative. Although research on aging is a relatively new field, the L&P has already made important, policy-relevant contributions in several substantive areas: for example, determinants of retirement; consumption and saving; health and functioning; health care and financing; the economic costs of poor health; the roles of support networks and resource transfers for the elderly; and financial well-being—as well as a parallel set of issues for aging in developing countries.
