Socio-Economic Status and Health
Growing policy concern about changes in social welfare policy and family and child health and well-being is reflected in the program's demographic and economic research. Over the past two decades, program staff have studied how social welfare programs affect child and adult health, and their choices regarding fertility, family formation, labor supply, and other life course decisions. Related research examines the role of families and private sector institutions in providing a "safety net" for families and children. Recently, the program has also increased its consideration of the impact of welfare reform at the national, state and local level on demographic and economic outcomes.
