Hedge Funds, the Financial Collapse of 2008, and Issues and Options for Policy

Project Leader: Lloyd Dixon

This research project is designed to shed light on questions that have arisen about hedge funds since the 2008 collapse of worldwide financial markets. Through our study, we will strive to address questions regarding the existing regulatory mechanisms relating to hedge funds, as well as broader questions such as (but not limited to) concerning what hedge funds do, why they are important, and what kinds of investor and societal protections are needed to ensure that they function appropriately within the larger financial system. The primary goal for our study is to provide an "issues and options" blueprint for policymakers to consider in the latter half of 2010, thereby making a visible, significant contribution to the public debate on public policies on this topic.
