RAND Expert Available for Interviews on Madrassas in Pakistan
RAND Corporation expert Christine Fair is available for interviews to discuss the effects of madrassas—typically known as radical Islamist schools—on children.
The issue has gained recent attention with the recent release of the Pakistani documentary “Karachi Kids,” which details the lives of 80 American children in the Karachi-based Jamia Binoria madrassa. In response, Congress introduced legislation (HR-1336) to secure the return of American children studying in madrassas in Pakistan.
Fair, author of “The Madrassa Challenge: Militancy and Religious Education in Pakistan,” is a RAND senior political scientist focusing on South Asian political and military affairs.
Among the topics she can discuss are:
- The wide range of madrassas in Pakistan
- Education in Pakistani public schools vs. madrassas
- Legislation regulating madrassas and its effect on Muslim Americans.
