About the Speaker
Peter Reuter has returned to RAND part-time and has resumed the role of codirector of the RAND Drug Policy Research Center (DPRC), working alongside current director Martin Iguchi. Peter will also begin development of a research program within RAND Infrastructure, Safety, and Environment to improve policy concerning money laundering.
Peter is a professor in the School of Public Affairs and in the Department of Criminology at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy. From 1999 to 2004 he was editor of the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, the principal public policy academic journal.
From 1981 to 1993, Peter was a senior economist at RAND, based in the Washington Office. He cofounded the DPRC in 1989 and served as the center's director until 1993. Peter has maintained his contacts with RAND since moving to the university. At present, he leads a RAND study of the global heroin industry. In addition, he recently completed a project for the World Bank on drugs and development.
In 2004, he coauthored a book on money laundering controls entitled Chasing Dirty Money: Progress in the Fight Against Money Laundering, published by the Institute for International Economics.
Peter received his Ph.D. in economics from Yale University.
