Getting the Facts
Current data sources on immigration to the United States are insufficient. The authors examine the forces challenging the present immigration policy; the reason new data on immigration are needed; the feasibility of obtaining these data; and the use of field surveys to obtain more data. They stress the necessity of a well-trained, bilingual staff to conduct the survey and emphasize the need for confidentiality and sensitivity to increase participation by interviewees.
