The patient-education brochure is specifically designed for patients undergoing assessment for symptoms of depression. The brochure takes patients through the process of thinking about whether they have symptoms of depression that may resolve, symptoms of depression that may be due to another condition such as a grief reaction, or a clinical depression that requires medications or psychotherapy. Partners in Care (PIC) is an integrated approach to improving care for depression in primary care. Its two quality improvement programs — one focusing on medication, the other on psychotherapy — are appropriate for socioeconomically and ethnically diverse populations.
