This unique technology allows readers to view the actual correspondence between government officials at the highest levels in context, including formerly classified memoranda between Presidents and Secretaries of Defense, revealing the inner story of the all-volunteer force.

I Want You! presents a history of the development of America’s all-volunteer force and a review of the major policy questions and research undertaken to support Department of Defense decisionmakers over the past 30 years. Starting in the early 1960s, the account runs through the current war in Iraq, alternating chapters between the history of the all-volunteer force and the analysis that supported decisionmaking.
