
Converting vast amounts of digital data into meaningful information for research and analysis is a challenge for many different types of organizations. At the QCRI Seminar Series in Doha on Dec. 12, Dalal will discuss RAND's approach to managing data and to harnessing the power of information analytics and web technologies.

Since 1995, the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) has been a catalyst for transforming Qatar's carbon economy into a knowledge economy. In a special issue of
The Foundation magazine, QF reflects on how RAND's research and policy insights have informed decisions about education, health, environmental, labor, and other important issues.

Darleen Opfer and Anna Saavedra of RAND Education discussing labor market demands in the 21st century as well as the role of social entrepreneurs in learning.

RAND Corporation is a knowledge partner of an international conference in Abu Dhabi, which focuses on educational approaches for building a proficient workforce in the Middle East and North Africa. Lynn Karoly, senior economist and director of the Office of Research Quality Assurance at RAND, will discuss human capital challenges in the 21st century.

RAND senior researcher Obaid Younossi has been named the new director of the RAND-Qatar Policy Institute. "Obaid's long career in public policy research and analysis and his experiences in the region make him the perfect candidate to help the Institute continue to grow and expand its work in Qatar and elsewhere in the region," said RAND President and CEO James A. Thomson.

Nearly 150 guests celebrated the RAND-Qatar Policy Institute’s 5th anniversary, and RAND’s 60th anniversary, at the Qatar Foundation’s headquarters in Education City, Doha, on October 26, 2008. Attendees included cabinet ministers, members of the Qatar Foundation’s board of directors, deans of Education City universities, ambassadors and other diplomatic corps representatives, business leaders, media, friends of RAND, and RQPI staff members and their families.

Education and employment preferences in Qatar are not well aligned with the demands of the Persian Gulf state's labor market, and existing post-secondary educational offerings do not meet all of the nation's needs, according to a RAND Corporation study issued today.

The RAND Corporation and the Qatar Foundation today announced the creation of a Board of Overseers to guide the development of the RAND-Qatar Policy Institute. The new Board will be co-chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Misnad and RAND Executive Vice President Michael Rich.

Qatar Foundation and RAND today signed an agreement to establish the RAND-Qatar Policy Institute, which will harness the research and analytic skills of hundreds of RAND experts in the United States and Europe to study some of the most important issues facing the Middle East.
