The Defence team offers a wide range of expertise in the areas of strategy and concepts, force planning, procurement, industrial base and military operations. We have worked with numerous European defence organisations, in particular the UK Ministry of Defence. Our recent work has included projects such as:

• Understanding the link between strategic and operational planning
• Predicting future security environments
• Capability acquisition and industrial base issues
• Personnel recruitment, retention and motivation levers
• Force restructuring

Security and Counter-Terrorism

The Security and Counter-Terrorism team at RAND Europe has assisted a range of key clients in shaping their response to the challenges faced in the ongoing effort to counter international terrorism, including various UK and foreign government stakeholders and private sector security practitioners. Our recent work has covered issues such as:

• Critical infrastructure protection and Information Assurance
• Terrorist planning and operational cycles
• Extremist radicalisation and recruitment techniques and processes
• Counter-insurgency

International Security and Development

The International Security and Development team has developed in-depth expertise in post-conflict planning and implementation efforts. Much of this experience has been gained through operational experience in theatres such as Iraq and Afghanistan. We currently provide expertise and assistance to UK and foreign government agencies and non-governmental organisations engaged in post-conflict reconstruction activities. Recent and ongoing projects have included:

• Strategic and operational planning
• Post-conflict planning and implementation
• Stabilisation operations
• Security sector reform
