Environmental Science and Technology
1993 - 2003

The Science and Technology Policy Institute provided policy analysis to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), the cabinet-level National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), and government agencies concerned with policies affecting science and technology.

Institute researchers and policy analysts worked with the OSTP Environment division and the NSTC Committee on Environmental and Natural Resources (CENR) since December 1993 in a range of areas. Projects included extended analysis of policy issues related to the development and implementation of the National Environmental Technology Strategy, as well as addressing other key interagency environmental science and technology issues. For example, the institute analyzed stakeholder input for developing the National Environmental Technology Strategy, developed a template for performance measures for federal environmental R&D, summarized federal R&D expenditures in social and economic dimensions of environmental change, studied industry environmental R&D practices and analyzed federal, state and local government collaboration in environmental technology development and application.
