Third Summit on Information Technology Infrastructure for Bioterrorism Opportunities and Gaps in Surveillance and Communications Developers' Stakeholder Meeting Wednesday, April 3, 2001 RAND 1200 South Hayes Street Arlington, Virginia On April 3, 2002 RANDs Science and Technology Policy Institute will convene a developers stakeholder meeting to assess current surveillance and communication capabilities. Participants are thought leaders (e.g., CTP, VPs, CEOs) from large and small companies, academic institutions, and government agencies that develop hardware, software, and/or communications technologies to support surveillance and communications to address bioterrorism. The meeting format will be a workshop conducted by outside facilitators and will incorporate breakout groups. Participation is limited. Every attempt will be made to ensure a balanced mix of large and small companies and a range of technologies and expertise. This developers group will review the materials produced from the past two summit meetings, identify gaps in technology, assess barriers, provide input into an online database of available technologies, and interface with the participants of the third Summit. Before the conclusion of this meeting attendees from this group will select representatives to report their findings at the April 4, 2002 Summit meeting. On April 4, 2002 the Science and Technology Policy Institute will convene participants for the third Summit to continue their work on an information technology infrastructure for bioterrorism that was begun in November 2001. The Summit participants are a diverse group who represent major stakeholders and experts in the field of health informatics and public health. This meeting will focus on identifying what technologies are available and any gaps in technology that threaten our nations ability to respond quickly and effectively. The work of the summit group will be posted at http://www.rand.org/scitech/stpi/Infrastructure/index.html. The results of the first summit meeting, summarized in the draft white paper, can be downloaded at this site. Comments are welcome. The product of the second Summit, a detailed description of the requirements for communications and surveillance, should be available before the April 3 and 4 meetings. For those interested, opportunities to support this initiative are available. Last revised March 22, 2002. Archived December 1, 2003. |
