Overview

Max Steiner is an assistant policy researcher at RAND and a Ph.D candidate at the Pardee RAND Graduate School. He is attending Pardee RAND on leave from the U.S. Department of State; as a Foreign Service Officer he has served in Honduras, Mexico, Egypt, and Washington, D.C. In addition, he is a Sergeant First Class in a U.S. Army Reserve, Civil Affairs unit, and previously served two years in Iraq as an infantryman.

Steiner has a B.A. in development studies from the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests include military recruitment, retention, and promotion and the impact of diplomacy on national defense.
