Karen Stroobants (she/her) is a research leader working in the area of science and emerging technology at RAND Europe. Her research interests are in the area of science and innovation policy, with a particular interest in research culture, research(er) careers and research(er) assessment.
Before joining RAND Europe, Stroobants delivered an instrumental contribution to the Royal Society’s research culture programme, leading research for and development of a ‘Resumé for Researchers’, an adaptable template for evaluation of researchers that encourages consideration of a wider range of contributions. A version of the Resumé for Researchers is being trialed by UK Research and Innovation. She consequently led a programme of work for the Royal Society of Chemistry on open access and trends in scholarly communication.
Stroobants is a board member (and previously vice chair of the policy working group) of the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA). In this capacity, she represents the association at NewHoRRIzon Social Labs, an H2020 project that aims to integrate Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in R&I systems, and at stakeholder meetings by the European Research Area Committee (ERAC), the EU's strategic policy advisory committee on ERA. She has a Ph.D. in chemistry from KU Leuven in Belgium.
