Overview

Till von Wachter is an adjunct economist at the RAND Corporation, Professor of Economics at the University of California Los Angeles and director of the California Policy Lab at UCLA. He is also Associate Director of the California Center for Population Research, and Director of the Federal Statistical Research Data Center at UCLA. Prof. von Wachter's research examines how labor market conditions and institutions affect the wellbeing of workers and their families and inequality. This includes the analysis of unemployment and job loss on workers long-term outcomes, as well as the role of unemployment insurance and disability insurance in buffering such shocks. This work has been published in academic journals such as the Quarterly Journal of Economics and the American Economic Review, has been subject of several congressional testimonies, and has been echoed in popular press, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and National Public Radio. Von Wachter has has provided expert assistance to the U.S. Department of Labor, the Canadian Labor Ministry, the OECD, the United Nations, and the IMF.
