Honoring the RAND HIE at 40

Panelists at the RAND HIE reunion

In June, RAND hosted a two-day celebration to mark the 40th anniversary of the RAND Health Insurance Experiment (HIE), the largest, most comprehensive, evidence-based health policy study in U.S. history. Colleagues on the HIE research team reunited with other RAND researchers and health policy experts to reflect on the landmark study and discuss how it transformed—and continues to impact—the health policy landscape. Alumnus Receives NATO Appointment

Rose Gottemoeller

Rose Gottemoeller, who worked as a social scientist at RAND for more than a decade, was recently appointed Deputy Secretary General of NATO. She will be the first woman to hold the position, which she assumes on October 1. At RAND, she worked on international relations generally and U.S.-Soviet relations in particular. She left in 1993 to join the National Security Council. Read more »

Alumni Reconnect at Summer Reunion

More than 85 RAND alumni gathered on July 14 for the RAND Alumni Association's (RAA's) third summer reunion event. Colleagues reconnected and socialized with new friends in the courtyard of RAND's Santa Monica headquarters campus. Peg Schumacher, associate director of the Office of External Affairs and a longtime RAND employee, welcomed everyone, including RAND's 2016 summer associates. Read more »

2016 Alumni Impact Fund Campaign Launches

The 2016 Alumni Impact Fund (AIF) campaign was launched in June, and we hope you will join us and participate. The AIF is an opportunity for all RAND alumni to help extend the impact of RAND research and analysis. The previous two campaigns were a great success—each surpassed the $100,000 goal—and we hope to match this achievement once again this year. All contributors will have the chance to vote on which projects to support. Read more »

Pardee RAND Celebrates Commencement

Rep. John Lewis

Pardee RAND faculty, alumni, students, and friends came together in June for a weekend of events celebrating the school's history and most recent group of graduates. On Saturday, June 18, 45 doctoral degrees and 46 master's degrees in public policy analysis were awarded at the Commencement ceremony. Rep. John Lewis delivered the keynote address. Read more »
