Celebrating RAND's Partnership with the Air Force

RAND hosted One Night with RAND in November, a fundraising event bringing together leaders in business, government, academia, and philanthropy to pay tribute to the seven-decade relationship between RAND and the U.S. Air Force. The event also celebrated the contributions of three individuals: Natalie Crawford, RAA president and former vice president and director of RAND Project AIR FORCE (1997–2006); Donald B. Rice, 17th U.S. Secretary of the Air Force and former president and CEO of RAND; and Susan F. Rice, who helped establish RAND’s development program.

Held in Santa Monica, the event featured a panel discussion on the role of trust in leadership with retired Air Force General Larry D. Welch, former U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, and RAND President and CEO Michael D. Rich, moderated by journalist and RAND trustee Soledad O'Brien. They discussed what it takes to get—and to give—effective and trusted advice for making decisions at the highest levels, including decisions that have national security implications.
