Alumni Celebrate RAND’s 70th Anniversary
RAND alumni from every decade from the 1950s to the present gathered in June at RAND’s Santa Monica headquarters campus to celebrate RAND’s 70th anniversary. Over Santa Maria barbecue, colleagues socialized, connected with new friends, and paid tribute to RAND’s 70 years of innovation at the fourth annual RAND Alumni Association (RAA) summer reunion.
RAA president Natalie Crawford welcomed the more than 130 attendees. She shared the importance of the RAA and in keeping alumni connected, and she introduced RAND’s 2018 summer associates.
A highlight of the evening was a RAND-themed Jeopardy! competition. Peg Schumacher played RAND’s in-house Alex Trebek and served as the MC. Three teams of competing alumni were cheered on by the crowd. The “green” team of Mary Jaynne Glaseman, Wally Murdoch, and Nancy Robertson won the competition. Guests also had a chance to walk down memory lane and view the permanent RAND Archives exhibit.
RAND’s official 70th anniversary was May 14, the day when Project RAND separated from the Douglas Aircraft Company of Santa Monica and became an independent, nonprofit organization known as the RAND Corporation.
