Countering Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment in the Military

One in four women and one in 16 men in the military experience sexual harassment. One in 16 women and one in 143 men experience sexual assault. That’s according to a new report based on years of RAND research that was provided to the Independent Review Commission on Sexual Assault in the Military.

To help prevent sexual assault and harassment in the military, this report offers specific recommendations for policymakers, focused on enhancing accountability, improving knowledge and skills needed to prevent sexual assault and harassment, and enacting a research agenda for the Defense Department to set the standard for excellence in prevention.
