There are over 160 million workers in the U.S. labor force, and their earnings are the economic and financial foundation for most U.S. families. Their ability to earn more—more than the previous year, more than their parents—is at the heart of upward mobility and the American Dream. Yet, the challenges confronting those workers are considerable—from investing in the right education and training, to having sufficient earnings to make ends meet now and into retirement, to having the ability to remake, or even restart, their careers when faced with a rapidly changing occupational landscape.

The American Worker blog series offers insights from RAND researchers and highlights from published RAND research on policy issues as myriad and considerable as the challenges facing U.S. workers.
