Factor analysis of items designed for the intrapersonal, interpersonal, stress management, and adaptability scales showed that these items loaded moderately on the factor they were designed to measure and had low loadings on other factors (Bar-On & Parker, 2000).

Evidence based on relations with other variables

Scale scores on all scales of the long and short form of the EQ-i: YV were significantly correlated with each other (Bar-On & Parker, 2000). Scale scores for the same scale on the long and short form of the EQ-i: YV had correlations ranging from 0.92 to 1.0.

Scale scores on the EQ-i: YV had moderate to high (0.56 to 0.88) correlations with scale scores on the adult version of the EQ-i. Significant correlation was found between the Intrapersonal scale and the Extraversion and Agreeableness scales on the NEO-Five Factor Inventory (Costa & McCrae, 1992). The Interpersonal scale had moderate correlations with the Extraversion, Agreeableness.

In addition, Shuler (2004) reported that the Adaptability and total EQ scores had significant positive correlation (0.32 and 0.27, respectively) with cognitive intelligence, measured by the Full Scale IQ score on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-III (Wechsler, 1997). Scale scores of the EQ-i:YV showed the ability to predict significant emotional disturbance measured by the Behavior Assessment System for Children-Self Report of Personality (BASC-SRP; Reynolds & Kamphaus, 2004; Shuler, 2004).
