Zalmay Khalilzad was the most senior Afghan-American and Muslim-American in the White House at the time of the 9/11 attacks. He served as ambassador to Afghanistan, Iraq, and the UN during the administration of George W. Bush. In a new memoir, The Envoy: From Kabul to the White House, My Journey Through a Turbulent World, he recounts his early life in Afghanistan through his service as a policymaker in three U.S. administrations. He will share rare insights into what went wrong in the Middle East and his unique perspective on the way forward.
