In addition to competition between the leading AI labs, state-on-state competition is a defining feature of the current technology landscape. Within the Center for the Geopolitics of AGI, researchers are developing and evaluating strategy concepts that seek to prevent great power conflict over advanced AI and to promote stability on the path to AGI futures. As part of this effort, the project assesses how crises and strategic stability—including but not limited to the relationship between the United States and China—are shaped by competition to develop advanced AI, and how to avoid catastrophic instability on the path to AGI.
